In 1955 Edouard De Beukelaer II., son of the company’s founder, built the "Flämische Keksfabrik E. de Beukelaer" (Flemish E. De Beukelaer biscuit factory) in Kempen on the Lower Rhine, thus bringing the grand Belgian biscuit tradition across the Rhine into Germany. The popular Prinzen Rolle, the perennial favourite biscuit, is still produced here today. Since the merger of the Griesson company and General Biscuits Deutschland und Österreich to form Griesson – de Beukelaer GmbH & Co. KG in 1999, the Kempen plant has the largest capacity of all the company’s factories.
