In the presence of Minister President Michael Kretschmer, Griesson - de Beukelaer (GdB) celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of production capacities at the Wurzener Dauerbackwaren plant. The family-owned company is investing over 100 million euros in the construction of a new production hall and logistics building with an automated high-bay warehouse, as well as a new, modern social and administrative building at the site. By 2027, the installation of state-of-the-art equipment will create additional production capacity for GRIESSON soft cake®, the market leader in the chocolate fruit biscuit segment, and up to 100 new jobs in Wurzen.
“Griesson - de Beukelaer’s decision to significantly expand the Wurzen plant is great news for the city and reflects confidence in Saxony as a business location. The new jobs and additional production capacities are a gain for the entire region east of Leipzig and strengthen the food industry throughout Saxony. The investment speaks to the favorable conditions in Wurzen and underscores the city’s commitment to securing and expanding the site over the years. It’s a vivid example of what’s possible when city, state, and business work toward a common goal,” said Minister President Michael Kretschmer.
“The investment in Wurzen is a clear commitment to Germany as a business location and a forward-looking investment in our family business. In addition, we are continuing to expand production at our three sites and ensuring the high level of quality that retailers and consumers rely on,” said Andreas Land, shareholder of Griesson - de Beukelaer.
New Jobs and Securing the Future
GRIESSON soft cake®, one of the most popular cookies in the German biscuit market since 1977 and the market leader in the chocolate fruit biscuit segment, is not only a prime example of quality and tradition but also of innovation and growth. With the site expansion, Griesson - de Beukelaer is investing in cutting-edge technologies, further advancing its already high level of automation, and creating up to 100 new jobs for skilled professionals such as electronics technicians, food technologists, and engineers, as well as for young people starting their careers through apprenticeships.
“With the future strength of a high-performing family business, we are continuing the development of our Wurzener Dauerbackwaren plant. Passion and a love for baking define our team and our work in a forward-looking and crisis-resistant industry,” said Dany Schmidt, CEO of Griesson - de Beukelaer.
