Extension of production capacities: Griesson - de Beukelaer celebrates Kahla ground-breaking

Minister President Bodo Ramelow praises commitment to the location / Investment sum of over EUR 100 million / Start of operations in summer 2019

On Tuesday this week in the presence of the Thuringian Minister President Bodo Ramelow, Griesson - de Beukelaer (GdB) celebrated the ground-breaking for the extension of its production capacities in Kahla. Over the next few years the company is investing over EUR 100 million in the factory, which is already one of the most modern biscuit factories in Europe. The first biscuits will come off the production line in the new production hall in summer 2019. “This is one of the largest investments in our company history, and at the same time for us it is a clear commitment to the location of Kahla”, said Andreas Land, Managing Partner of GdB. GdB has already invested over EUR 200 million in Kahla since the factory started operations in 1993. The company employs 435 people at the site, including 19 apprentices, making it one of the most important employers and companies providing apprentice training in the region. Additional jobs will be created during the course of the construction work. “With its economic and subsidy policy, the Thuringian state government guarantees stable framework conditions for investments, and serves as a reliable partner for companies. Today’s ground-breaking at the Kahla site is a further and important signal from Griesson - de Beukelaer both for the region and for Thuringia as an industrial location”, said Minister President Bodo Ramelow. “I congratulate the traditional company on the 25 years that this ultramodern branch has been here in eastern Thuringia, and I am delighted that the extension of the production and logistics area will safeguard existing jobs and create new ones.”

The extensive construction work is divided into three sections: In the new, 130-metre-long high-bay warehouse over 17,000 additional pallet bays are being created – tripling the capacity. The new “Production Hall 4” will be 240 metres longer than two football pitches, and will provide space for four new production lines, the first of which is set to start operations in summer 2019. In future the production area will cover a constructed area of 40,000 square metres. In this way GdB is developing the Kahla site even more strongly into an ultramodern location for biscuit manufacture. In the future too, the factory will mainly produce biscuit assortments, American Cookies and the Griesson Soft Cake. During the construction of the new hall, new social areas are also being created, with recreation rooms and washrooms. The entrance area is also being redesigned with a new gate building and a new truck waiting area.

“We would like to thank the town of Kahla and the management of the district approval authorities for the excellent cooperation that made this major investment possible in the first place”, said Andreas Land.
