The traditional Griesson - de Beukelaer City Run in Polch will once again attract numerous athletes to the Eifel on 27 September 2015. The fun run for all ages and abilities offers an attractive range of different contests. With the Griesson Bambini Run, the Prinzen Rolle Schoolchildren’s Run, the 5 km LEICH&CROSS Race for Everyone and the 10 km TUC Main Run, there will be movement and entertainment all day long in the city centre and around the Forum in Polch. There will be a special award for company teams with the opportunity of celebrating together after the run in their own team tent.
The aim of the initiator and main sponsor Griesson - de Beukelaer, the organiser münz sportkonzept and the supporting LG Maifeld Pellenz (Maifeld Pellenz light athletics club) is to continuously improve the event and offer an attractive programme for runners and visitors.
“Last year the fun run was accompanied by a varied exhibitor area with presentation stands and an activity programme. This year we have built on this, and will ensure that neither the runners nor the visitors get bored, with a massage tent, measurements of lactate levels, a children’s roundabout, bungee trampoline, dietary advice and lots of exhibitors both in front of the Griesson - de Beukelaer factory shop and also around the Forum”, reported Peter Gries, Press Spokesman at Griesson - de Beukelaer, at a press conference in the middle of June. Gries also stated that minor changes to the running route would make the event concept even more attractive.
“In 2015 all the contests will be starting in the area of Vormaystraße/Dechant-Riegel-Straße. The finishing line is directly in front of the Griesson - de Beukelaer factory shop. The advantage of this change is that parents, for example, can watch their children at both the start and finish of the Schoolchildren’s and Bambini runs, and participants in the Run for Everyone and the Main Runs have short routes to the starting point.
Naturally the new routes have been measured by the DLV (the German light athletics association) and are thus especially attractive for performance athletes. A further advantage for fast runners is the fact that for both the 5 km Leicht & Cross Run for Everyone and the 10 km TUC main run there will be two starting times. “Fast” athletes will start in the first run, and amateur runners in the second run.
Also new this year is the fact that the organisation and the awards ceremonies are taking place at the Forum Polch, a change that was brought about by the imminent renovation works in the Maifeldhalle, but which can certainly enrich the event.
Peter Gries emphasised that a further aim of the initiator, main sponsor and organiser is to provide support for sport for children and young people in the region. For this reason the traditional special contest for primary schools is being extended this year for the first time to all schools of the Maifeld Pellenz association of municipalities. The schools which take part in the Bambini and Schoolchildren’s races with the most pupils will win prizes.
Bernhard Münz, the organiser of numerous sports events in the region, is delighted at the commitment and help from the LG Maifeld Pellenz and many local associations. “The team from münz are happy to organise the sports events, but without the helpers on the spot and the support from sponsors, events such as the Griesson - de Beukelaer City Run in Polch would hardly be possible.”
